TRAINING PHILOSOPHY
Chris loves dogs that love to retrieve and he will use training techniques to encourage and teach confidence, obedience, success, and reliability. Most importantly, Chris will promote your dog's natural desire to retrieve.
All dogs have different learning styles and paces. Chris will work with your dog to meet its individual needs and to accomplish the goals you have for your retriever.
He wants the highest standard in the duck blind and on the line at a field trial or hunt test. Chris will begin by building a strong and positive relationship with your dog. He will also use a variety of training strategies to achieve your desired goals. Positive reinforcement will be used to teach training commands/expectations and an e-collar will be used for reinforcement. Your dog's natural skills and attributes will also be utilized to achieve the desired result. There is nothing worse than an unresponsive, disobedient dog and Chris will use proven and proper training techniques to achieve obedience and encourage a joyful attitude from the dog.
Wolf River Retrievers strives to give dogs the finest education and to provide you and your dog the best training experience possible. If you have a talented dog who demonstrates real potential, you will be encouraged to run the dog in field trials (doing so promotes the dog's breed). We want our clients and their dogs to excel at the highest level of competition possible.
You may be asking yourself: What if my dog is not cut out for competitive retrieving games. This is okay! Chris will do everything possible to encourage your dog's retrieving desire and educate him to meet your training needs. In some instances, a few dogs may not learn at high levels and they may not have a strong desire to retrieve. It is WRR policy to inform you as early as possible if your dog is not demonstrating potential for field work. The last thing Chris wants is for you to spend time and money on a dog that has no desire to retrieve.
